How it works

The Basics
A string story is a story that is created and built by more than one person.

The result is a story that grows and develops in interesting and diverse ways, with each line and paragraph making a real contribution to the direction of the tale.

The string is built on a forum platform which makes it easy to follow and add on to at any time. You may use copy and paste techniques or simply submit your own input on the next line down. This may be better to do as the story gets longer.

If you intend to have the work published we will copy it all together for you as part of our publication service.

Also - Look out for the regular competitions where your school or group can win cash prizes.

The format is therefore very flexible, but there are a small set of rules that are required to be observed

The Rules
1. This is a friendly site. It's aim is for people to come together and collaborate and promote the sharing of ideas. Please do not use the forums for bullying others. Abuse is not acceptable and you will be banned.

2. You may contribute anything from one line to a complete paragraph on any submission to a story.

3. There are no limits placed on the number of submissions you can make to any one story, but there must be another contribution to the story before you can submit another addition.

4. You may contribute to any amount of stories that you have access to. There are also no limits to the number of strings you can start.

5. For school writing projects -please follow any additional guidance your teachers may set when adding to a string.

6. Again for schools - each string is password protected. Please do not distribute the password beyond your class. This is for your own internet safety.

7. Any inappropriate of offensive strings will be deleted and the author banned from the site.

FINALLY THE LEGAL BIT:-
By submitting strings to the site you are contributing to the story. Yourself and other authors may wish to publish the material and this site allows you the right to do so. Therefore, no matter what size your contribution to any string, income created by yourself by publising will be your own. You may, however, only publish work that you have made a contribution to. Schools may publish stories and use funds created for school projects.
We do offer an editing and publising facility for this purpose. Please click here for more details
